This policy explains what information kantanhealth.jp (“Kantan Health”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use the site, why, and who else receives it. Kantan Health is run by an individual based in Japan and handles personal information in line with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI).
In short: you can browse the site without giving us your name or email address. We use analytics tools to understand how the site is used, and we only collect your email address if you choose to use bookmarks, leave a comment or contact us.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Like most websites, our web server records basic details of each request: your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, the referring page, and your browser’s user agent. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure (for example, to block abusive traffic). They are normally kept for about 14 days. The site is hosted on a DigitalOcean server in Singapore.
Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC, to count visits and see which pages are useful. It uses cookies (such as _ga) and collects information like the pages you visit, how long you stay, your approximate location, device and browser. Google processes this information on its servers, which may be outside Japan. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Microsoft Clarity. We use Microsoft Clarity, provided by Microsoft Corporation, to understand how people use our pages through heatmaps and session replays (recordings of clicks, scrolling and mouse movement). Clarity uses cookies (such as _clck and _clsk) and processes this information on Microsoft’s servers, which may be outside Japan. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Google Maps and Google Fonts. Clinic pages show a Google Map, and the site loads some fonts from Google. When these load, your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and browser details. See the Google Privacy Policy.
Partner and referral links
Some links on the site, such as those to Jozu, SafetyWing, Wise and italki, are partner or referral links. They go through a short redirect on our site (for example kantanhealth.jp/go/jozu). When you click one, we record the click, including your IP address, browser, the page you came from and the time, and set cookies so repeat clicks can be counted. We use this to see which links are useful. The partner may then set its own cookies to credit the referral to us. Once you are on a partner’s site, its own privacy policy applies.
Information you give us
Bookmarks. To save clinics to your bookmarks, you enter your email address. We then:
- store your email address and the clinics you save, along with the city and specialties of those clinics;
- create a simple account for you on the site and send you a sign-in link by email. These emails are sent through Brevo (Sendinblue);
- set login cookies in your browser so you stay signed in to your bookmarks;
- add your email address to our mailing list on Kit (formerly ConvertKit), tagged with the cities and specialties you saved, so we can send occasional health updates and newsletters. Saving bookmarks currently requires agreeing to receive these emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or ask us to delete your details.
Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, your IP address and your browser’s user agent. Comments are checked for spam by Akismet (Automattic Inc.). Your email address may be sent in hashed form to Gravatar (Automattic Inc.) to show your profile picture. If you tick the box to save your details, your name, email and website are stored in cookies on your browser for one year. Your email address is never shown publicly.
Contact form. If you use the form on our Contact page, the name, email address and message you enter are emailed to the site owner (sent through Brevo) so we can reply. The form does not store your message on the site. We use it only to reply and to fix any problem you report, and delete it when it is no longer needed.
Cookies
The site uses cookies for the purposes described above: analytics (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity), counting clicks on partner links, keeping you signed in to bookmarks, and remembering your comment details if you choose. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, although bookmarks need cookies to keep you signed in.
Sharing and transfers outside Japan
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers named in this policy (DigitalOcean, Google, Microsoft, Brevo, Kit and Automattic), who process it to provide their services, or where required by law. Several of these providers are based in, or store data in, countries outside Japan, including the United States and Singapore, where privacy laws differ from Japan’s.
How long we keep information
Server logs are kept for about 14 days. Bookmarks, account details and mailing-list subscriptions are kept until you ask us to delete them or unsubscribe. Comments are kept while they are published on the site. Analytics providers keep data according to their own settings and policies.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, stop using it, or delete it (including your bookmarks account). You can unsubscribe from emails at any time. To make a request, contact us as described below. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
Children
Kantan Health is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the way we handle information changes, and change the “Last updated” date above.
