Yoshikawa Ganka is a neighborhood eye clinic in Nakano, tucked into the Sunmall Fujiya Building about a five-minute walk from Nakano Station. It’s a standard Japanese ophthalmology practice — think routine eye exams, glasses and contact lens prescriptions, dry eye treatment, and management of conditions like glaucoma and cataracts. The clinic runs under the medical corporation Himawari-kai and has some English-language content on its website, which is a decent sign, but don’t assume that means fluent English staff at the front desk. Reality is probably closer to basic communication plus gestures and a translation app if things get complicated. That said, Nakano has enough international residents that local clinics have some experience with non-Japanese patients. If you’re coming for something straightforward — eye checkup, contact lens prescription, red eye that won’t quit — you’ll likely get through it fine. More complex consultations might need prep work.
