Tanaka Shika
Tanaka Shika is a small dental clinic tucked into a residential pocket of Mejiro — that quiet, leafy part of Toshima that feels more like a neighborhood than a city ward. It’s a solo or small-team practice, not a slick multi-chair operation, which tends to mean more face time with the dentist and less conveyor-belt energy.
The clinic has some English content on its website, which is a decent sign — they’re at least aware that non-Japanese patients exist. But “English on the website” doesn’t automatically mean fluent English at the front desk. If you go, bring your best translation app or a Japanese-speaking friend for anything beyond pointing at a tooth. For routine cleanings or straightforward fixes, you’ll probably manage. Complex treatment discussions will need more prep.
Mejiro Station is your access point — it’s on the Yamanote Line, so getting here is easy from most parts of Tokyo. The clinic is in the Mejiro Five building, unit 206.
Patient Feedback
Patient feedback points to a calm, unhurried practice — the kind where the dentist actually explains what they’re doing rather than just drilling and moving on. Wait times appear reasonable for a smaller clinic. The atmosphere is low-key and not intimidating, which matters if dental anxiety is a thing for you. Nothing flashy, but patients seem to leave feeling like their teeth were actually looked at properly.
English Language Proficiency
For translating forms, prescriptions, or discharge summaries, Jozu is worth having on your phone.
