Tama Kodaira Hokenjyo
Tama Kodaira Hokenjyo is a Tokyo Metropolitan Government public health center (保健所) in Kodaira City, out in the western Tama area. These aren’t your typical private clinics — public health centers handle things like tuberculosis screening, infectious disease consultation, mental health support, and health certificates. Think public health infrastructure, not a GP you book for a sore throat. That said, if you need official health documentation, disease consultations, or specific public health services, this is the place. They have conversational English capability and some English-language resources, which is genuinely useful given how confusing government health offices can be for expats. The Hanakogane area isn’t exactly central, so factor in travel time if you’re coming from the city core. For straightforward internal medicine, you’d probably be better served elsewhere — but for the public health services only a 保健所 can provide, this is your spot.
Patient Feedback
Being a government health center, expect a more bureaucratic experience than a private clinic — numbered tickets, waiting areas, and staff who are professional but not especially warm. The upside: services are thorough and well-documented. Waits vary by service type. People using it for TB testing or mental health referrals generally find the process straightforward once they understand which counter to approach. Not a place you visit casually.
