Somei Shika
Somei Shika sits on the second floor of a commercial building in Komagome, a quiet residential pocket of Toshima that most expats walk through without stopping. It’s a general dental clinic covering the usual range — checkups, cleaning, fillings, crowns, and basic restorative work.
The website has some English-language content, which is a decent sign that they’re at least aware foreign patients exist. But “website has English” and “you can walk in and have a full conversation in English” are very different things. The actual English fluency of staff at reception and chairside is unconfirmed, so bring a translation app or a Japanese-speaking friend if your dental vocabulary isn’t strong.
Komagome Station (JR Yamanote Line, Tokyo Metro Namboku Line) is close, making this reasonably easy to reach from most parts of central Tokyo. If you’re living in Toshima, Kita, or Bunkyo, this could be your most convenient dental option without trekking into the city center.
Patient Feedback
Patient feedback points to a calm, unhurried atmosphere — not the kind of place rushing you in and out. The dentists tend to explain what they’re doing before they do it, which anxious dental patients will appreciate. Wait times appear reasonable for a neighborhood clinic. Nothing flashy, just solid, consistent care. Most reviewers are local Japanese patients, so expat-specific feedback is thin.
