SAITOU GANKA IIN

Saitou Ganka Iiin is a neighborhood ophthalmology clinic tucked into Takadanobaba, one of the more livable corners of Shinjuku. It’s a small, local practice — not a hospital eye department, not a chain. Think family eye doctor, not eye care conglomerate.

The clinic covers standard ophthalmology: vision checks, glasses and contact lens prescriptions, eye disease management, and likely basic surgery referrals. Their website has some English content, which is a decent sign, but don’t assume that means fluent English-speaking staff are waiting for you at the front desk. It probably means someone put in effort on the web side. What you’ll actually encounter in person is less clear.

Takadanobaba is well-connected — on the Yamanote, Seibu Shinjuku, and Tokyo Metro Tozai lines — so getting there from most parts of Tokyo is straightforward. If you need routine eye care and live in or around Shinjuku, this is a reasonable local option. Bring a translation app and any relevant medical history in Japanese if you can manage it.
