Mizuho Ganka is an ophthalmology clinic sitting on the third floor of the Mizuho Medical Mall in Katsushika — a quieter residential ward in eastern Tokyo that most expats rarely end up in unless they live nearby. If you do live in the area, this is a solid local option for eye care: routine checkups, glasses and contact prescriptions, and general eye conditions.

The clinic has conversational English capability, which means someone at reception or on the medical side can get through a basic consultation without you both staring blankly at each other. Don’t expect a fully bilingual setup, but it’s workable for standard visits. A translation app in your back pocket never hurts.

It’s a neighborhood clinic, not a major hospital eye department — so for complex conditions or surgery, you may eventually get referred elsewhere. But for the everyday stuff — dry eyes, vision checks, contact lens fittings — it does the job without the chaos of a big hospital outpatient queue.
