Matsubara Iin
Matsubara Iin is a dermatology clinic in Jiyugaoka, one of Meguro’s more pleasant neighborhoods — walkable, not chaotic, easy to navigate even if you’re new to Tokyo. The clinic is run under the medical corporation Matsujōkai, which suggests some organizational infrastructure behind it rather than a pure solo practice.
Skin conditions, rashes, acne, and general dermatological concerns are the bread and butter here. The website has some English-facing content, which is a good sign, but that doesn’t automatically mean the staff are fluent or that consultations run smoothly in English. There’s a gap between “has an English page” and “can handle a nuanced conversation about your eczema history.”
If your Japanese is zero, come prepared — a translation app, written notes about your symptoms, or a Japanese-speaking friend will make your visit significantly smoother. That said, Jiyugaoka has a cosmopolitan enough crowd that the staff likely aren’t completely thrown by foreign patients.
Patient Feedback
Patient feedback points to a straightforward, no-nonsense dermatology practice. Appointments tend to move at a reasonable pace — typical for a neighborhood clinic rather than a packed hospital outpatient department. Doctors appear thorough with diagnoses and don’t rush prescriptions. The Jiyugaoka location means the patient base skews local and relatively calm. Nothing flashy, but consistent. Patients with recurring skin issues seem to return, which says something.
