小竹向原眼科クリニック (Kotakemukaihara Eye Clinic) sits on the second floor of Grande Kotake in Nerima Ward, a residential pocket of northwest Tokyo that most expats don’t end up in unless they live there. This is a neighborhood eye clinic — not an international hospital with a concierge desk, just a local ophthalmology practice doing routine exams, glasses and contact prescriptions, and common eye conditions.

Their website has some English-language content, which is a decent sign, but that doesn’t automatically mean the staff can hold a full conversation. Expect a mix of basic English and a lot of pointing at things. A translation app on your phone is smart insurance here. If your eye issue is straightforward — floaters, dry eyes, getting a prescription checked — you’ll probably manage fine. Complex situations with lots of back-and-forth? You might want backup.

Nearest station is Kotakemukaihara on the Yurakucho and Fukutoshin lines. Not the most convenient spot if you’re coming from central Tokyo, but totally reasonable if Nerima is your neighborhood.
