Konishi Gankaiin is a neighborhood eye clinic in Machida, a busy commuter city on the western edge of Tokyo. It handles the full range of general ophthalmology — think eye exams, glasses and contact lens prescriptions, dry eye, glaucoma screening, and cataract consultations. This is a local clinic serving local patients, not an international medical center, so don’t walk in expecting a bilingual receptionist. The website has some English-language content, which is a decent sign that they’re at least aware foreign patients exist, but confirmed English fluency at the desk is unclear. If your Japanese is limited, bring a translation app or a Japanese-speaking friend for anything beyond a basic eye exam.
