Kokuryo Central Ganka is an ophthalmology clinic on the third floor of the Ito-Yokado shopping center in Chofu, west Tokyo. That location is either convenient or weird depending on your perspective — you can grab groceries after your eye exam, which honestly isn’t the worst thing. The clinic covers standard eye care: vision checks, glaucoma screening, cataracts, contact lens fittings, and general eye disease. Their website has some English content, which is a decent sign, but don’t assume you’ll walk in and have a smooth English conversation with reception. Bring a translation app and any relevant medical history written out simply. Kokuryo Station is a short walk away. This is a neighborhood clinic serving local residents, not an international medical center — so set expectations accordingly. If you need routine eye care in Chofu or the western Tokyo suburbs and you’re not fluent in Japanese, you can probably make it work with some preparation.
