  • Full hospital, not clinic
  • Near central Tokyo
  • Kisen Hospital is a mid-sized internal medicine hospital in Katsushika, the quieter northeastern corner of Tokyo that most expats never end up in unless they live there. It’s a proper hospital — not a tiny clinic — so you’re looking at more departments, more capacity, and more bureaucratic paperwork than a small neighborhood practice. Their website has some English content, which is a good sign, but that doesn’t automatically mean the front desk is ready for a full conversation. Internal medicine covers a wide range of adult health issues: chronic conditions, general checkups, respiratory problems, digestive issues — the everyday stuff that keeps piling up. If you’re in Katsushika or nearby Edogawa, this is a legitimate option. If you’re coming from central Tokyo, the commute probably isn’t worth it unless you have a specific reason. Bring a translation app as backup. Don’t assume the English online means English in person.

    Patient Feedback

Patient feedback is limited for English speakers, but the hospital has a functional, no-frills reputation locally. It’s not a boutique clinic — expect standard Japanese hospital flow: numbered tickets, waiting areas, and multiple windows for different steps. Doctors appear thorough, which is typical for internal medicine in Japan. Wait times can stretch depending on the day. Not a place that rushes you out, but not fast either.

    English Language Proficiency

The website carries some English content, which suggests some awareness of non-Japanese patients — but that's the ceiling of what's confirmed. Reception staff are unlikely to be fluent. Forms will almost certainly be in Japanese only. A translation app like Google Translate or Papago is essential. If your Japanese is zero, consider bringing a Japanese-speaking friend or using a medical interpreter service before your first visit. Don't wing it here.
