Azuma Ganka is a neighborhood eye clinic sitting on the ground floor of a residential building in Koenji, one of Suginami’s more livable, less chaotic corners. They cover the standard ophthalmology bases — vision checks, eye pressure, dry eye, contact lens prescriptions, and general eye complaints. The website has some English-language content, which suggests they’ve thought about international patients at least a little, but whether that translates to a smooth English-speaking visit in person is genuinely unclear. Bring a translation app as backup and don’t assume the front desk will be fully bilingual. That said, eye exams are fairly procedure-heavy and language-light — a lot of what happens doesn’t require lengthy conversation. Koenji is well connected by JR Chuo Line, so getting there from central Tokyo is straightforward. If you live in Suginami or nearby and need a local eye doctor without trekking into Shinjuku, this is a reasonable option to try.
