  • Ando Dental Clinic sits in Sangenjaya, one of Setagaya’s most livable neighborhoods and a genuine expat hub. The clinic operates under the medical corporation Keishūkai and covers standard dental care — cleanings, fillings, extractions, the usual. Their website has some English-facing content, which is a decent sign, but don’t assume that means fluent English-speaking staff waiting at the front desk. Reality is probably closer to basic communication with some goodwill on both sides. Sangenjaya itself is easy to get to on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line, so access isn’t a problem. If you’re living in Setagaya and need a local dentist who isn’t completely unfamiliar with international patients, this is a reasonable option to try. Bring a translation app as backup. Not a dedicated expat clinic, but not a dead end either.

    Patient Feedback

Patient feedback points to a straightforward neighborhood dental practice — nothing flashy, but competent and efficient. Wait times seem reasonable for a local clinic. The dentist is described as thorough and methodical, which matters more than charm when someone’s got a drill near your face. The atmosphere is calm and not overwhelming. It’s a small clinic, so you get a more personal experience than a big dental chain. No major complaints about rushed appointments.

    English Language Proficiency

The website shows some English content, which suggests at least some awareness of non-Japanese patients — but that's not the same as English-speaking staff on shift. Expect Japanese to be the working language at reception and during your appointment. A translation app like Google Translate will be genuinely useful here, not just a backup. If your Japanese is zero, call ahead or have a Japanese-speaking friend contact them first. Forms are almost certainly Japanese only.
