SUMIDA CHUO BYOIN
Sumida Chuo Hospital is a general hospital in Kyojima, Sumida Ward, with a dermatology department on-site. That means you’re getting specialist care within a larger institutional setting — more resources, more equipment, but also more of a “take a number and wait” vibe than a boutique skin clinic.
The hospital has some English content on its website, which is a decent sign, but that doesn’t guarantee fluent English-speaking staff at reception or in the dermatology consultation room. Realistically, you’re probably looking at basic English at best, with most of the heavy lifting done through a translation app or a Japanese-speaking friend.
Location-wise, Kyojima is residential and not especially central — you’re east of Asakusa, away from the expat-heavy parts of Tokyo. Worth the trip if you’re already in Sumida Ward or east Tokyo, less obviously so if you’re commuting from Shibuya or Shinjuku.
Good for: rashes, skin conditions, follow-up dermatology care. Not the place to walk in expecting a smooth English-language experience without preparation.
Patient Feedback
Being inside a general hospital means dermatology visits here follow hospital rhythms — expect a wait, paperwork, and a fairly clinical consultation style. Doctors tend to be thorough rather than chatty. Patients generally report competent care for common skin issues. The trade-off is efficiency: you’ll get seen and treated, but don’t expect a lot of hand-holding or extended Q&A time. Bring patience and a translation app.
