Sancha Shika
Sancha Shika sits on the second floor of Arc Excel Plaza Hiei in Sangenjaya — one of Setagaya’s most livable neighborhoods for expats. It’s a general dental clinic covering the usual range: cleanings, fillings, crowns, extractions, and cosmetic work.
The staff have conversational English, which means you can explain a toothache or ask about a procedure without resorting to frantic phone translation. Don’t expect full clinical consultations in fluent English, but you won’t be standing there in silence either. Some English resources are available, which helps with the basics.
Sangenjaya is well-connected — two stops from Shibuya on the Den-en-toshi Line — so this is a realistic option for expats living across a wide stretch of west Tokyo. The area itself has a relaxed, neighborhood feel, and the clinic fits that: no enormous hospital-style waiting room, no conveyor-belt atmosphere. Just a local dentist that can actually communicate with you.
If you’re in Setagaya and dreading the dental appointment because of the language barrier, this one removes most of that stress.
Patient Feedback
Patients tend to mention that the clinic feels unhurried — the dentist takes time to explain what’s happening, which matters a lot when you’re already anxious about communicating. Wait times are generally reasonable for a neighborhood practice. The second-floor location is easy to miss the first time, so look for the building name. Overall vibe is calm and professional without being stiff. Not a flashy clinic, but consistent and reliable.
English Language Proficiency
For translating forms, prescriptions, or discharge summaries, Jozu is worth having on your phone.
