Okano Shikaiin
Okano Shikaiin is a general dental clinic sitting on the ground floor of the HM Building in Itabashi, one of Tokyo’s quieter residential wards. It’s a neighborhood practice — not a flashy international clinic — so walk in expecting a traditional Japanese dental setup rather than a bilingual welcome desk.
The clinic has some English content on its website, which is a decent sign that they’re at least aware foreign patients exist. Whether that translates to smooth English conversation at reception is genuinely unclear. Standard dental procedures — cleanings, fillings, extractions — are likely manageable with basic Japanese or a translation app, but anything complex involving detailed medical history or treatment planning is going to get harder without a Japanese-speaking friend in tow.
Itabashi isn’t the most expat-dense part of Tokyo, so don’t expect the same international experience you’d find near Roppongi or Shibuya. That said, if you live locally and need routine dental work, it’s a legitimate option worth a phone call to test the waters first.
Patient Feedback
Patient feedback points to a straightforward, no-nonsense dental practice. Reviews suggest the dentist is thorough and doesn’t rush appointments, which counts for a lot. Wait times appear reasonable for a smaller neighborhood clinic. The atmosphere is calm and clinical rather than warm and chatty — typical for traditional Japanese dental offices. Nothing flashy, but patients seem to leave feeling like the job got done properly.
English Language Proficiency
For translating forms, prescriptions, or discharge summaries, Jozu is worth having on your phone.
