  • Kurihara Dental Clinic sits in a residential pocket of Nakai/Nakaochimai — technically Shinjuku ward but a quieter, less chaotic corner than you’d expect from that address. It’s a small, neighborhood-style dental practice operating out of the first floor of the Yasuda Building on a local street. Not a sleek expat-facing clinic. Not a tourist dental chain. Just a working Japanese dentist’s office that’s been serving the local community.

The website has some English-language content, which is a decent sign — at minimum someone there thought about non-Japanese patients. But don’t expect a fully bilingual reception experience. If your Japanese is zero, bring a translation app and write down your symptoms beforehand. That said, dental work is one of those specialties where a lot communicates through pointing, X-rays, and the dentist’s hands anyway.

Good for: routine checkups, cleanings, fillings, basic dental care if you live in the Nakai or Shinjuku area and want somewhere close. Not the place to go if you need complex treatment and require detailed English explanation throughout.

    Patient Feedback

No large volume of English-language reviews exists for this clinic, which itself tells you something — it’s not on the expat radar the way bigger Shinjuku clinics are. Patients familiar with Japanese dental offices will feel at home: expect thorough cleanings, conservative treatment approaches, and a no-rush atmosphere typical of smaller neighborhood practices. Wait times are generally manageable at smaller clinics like this. Walk-ins are less predictable — call or book ahead.

    English Language Proficiency

The clinic has English content on its website, which is a step above nothing. Whether that translates to English-speaking staff at the front desk is genuinely unclear. Assume it doesn't. Reception is likely Japanese-only. The dentist may have some functional English, or may not. Bring Google Translate, have your symptoms typed out, and know basic dental vocab. Forms are almost certainly in Japanese only. For complex consultations requiring nuanced explanation, this may not be the right fit.
