Komine Shikaiin
Komine Shikaiin is a general dental clinic sitting in the Ozaki Building on the ground floor in Kokubunji, a quieter residential pocket of western Tokyo. It’s a small neighborhood practice — the kind of place where you’re not getting lost in a massive hospital system, but also where you shouldn’t assume fluent English is waiting for you at the front desk.
The clinic has a website with some English content, which is a good sign — it means they’re at least aware that non-Japanese patients exist. But “English on the website” and “English at the chair” are two different things. Bring a translation app as backup. Google Translate’s camera mode works well for forms.
For routine dental work — cleanings, fillings, check-ups — this kind of local clinic is perfectly functional even with limited language overlap. Japanese dental care is generally solid, and smaller clinics often run on tighter schedules with less waiting around than bigger facilities.
If you’re in Kokubunji or nearby and need a dentist, this is a reasonable option. Just go in with realistic expectations on the language front.
Patient Feedback
Patient feedback points to a calm, unhurried clinic with shorter wait times than you’d find at larger dental chains. The dentist is described as thorough and methodical — the type who explains what they’re doing rather than just drilling away. It’s a small practice, so appointments tend to feel personal rather than rushed. Nothing flashy, but competent and consistent. No major complaints about billing surprises either, which matters when you’re navigating Japanese insurance for the first time.
English Language Proficiency
